‘Miami Vice '85' Delayed to 2028, ‘The Mummy 4' Upped to 2027

Universal is reshuffling its release calendar, with two high-profile projects — “The Mummy 4” and “Miami Vice ’85” — essentially swapping positions.

“The Mummy 4,” directed by Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett), has been moved up significantly and is now set to hit theaters on October 15, 2027, instead of its previously planned 2028 slot. This marks a major vote of confidence for the legacy sequel, which is expected to reunite stars like Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.

Meanwhile, “Miami Vice ’85,” directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler, has been pushed back to 2028. The film, a stylized reboot set in the 1980s, had previously been positioned as a key 2027 summer title but will now arrive later. Something tells me this has to do with Kosinski’s busy schedule, which may include a very important, and pertinent, project in the pipeline, his untitled UFO whistleblower thriller for Apple.
