Kirsten Dunst Joins ‘Minecraft 2’ After Saying She Wanted the Role to “Make a Pile of Cash”

March 19, 2026 Jordan Ruimy

Back in August 2025, Kirsten Dunst told Town & Country magazine that she wants to star in ‘Minecraft 2’ because her kids loved the first one and she’d “like to make a pile of cash,” she added, “Maybe I can just make a movie where I don’t lose money?”

Well, Dunst has gotten her wish—she’s officially been added to the cast of Minecraft 2 — set to play Alex. Get that paycheck, girl! Dunst joins a cast that includes the returning Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, Matt Berry, and Jennifer Coolidge.

Dunst will get her wish: ‘Minecraft 2’ is expected to rake in boatloads of cash when it comes out next year. “A Minecraft Movie” was one of the top earners in 2025, grossing close to $1 billion globally, with an impressive $163M domestic opening weekend. The sequel will very likely eclipse that figure.

Dunst is coming off a handful of strong performances; her last three acting credits were “The Power of the Dog,” “Civil War,” and “Roofman.” She also stars in Ruben Östlund’s “The Entertainment System is Down,” which could potentially hit Cannes next year.
