Just a quick update on Damien Chazelle’s next film, which is still untitled and began production in Greece yesterday. Cillian Murphy, Daniel Craig, and Michelle Williams are part of the cast.
Much of the film remains shrouded in secrecy, but here are a few brief plot details:
A prison warden (Craig) attempts to discipline a defiant inmate (Murphy) within a brutal correctional system. As tensions rise, their relationship evolves into a psychological duel. Williams portrays the warden’s wife. Mia Threapleton plays the inmate’s girlfriend.
Filming is currently taking place in the basement of a former tobacco-processing factory in western Athens, which has been transformed into prison cells for the production. This phase of the shoot is expected to continue until May. Production will then move briefly, for a few weeks, to the greater Athens region and the northwestern island of Corfu.
This mid-budget prison drama is set up at Paramount. Lol Crawley (“The Brutalist”) is serving as cinematographer, while Chazelle’s longtime collaborator Justin Hurwitz is composing the score. No release date has been announced just yet.
