‘The Bride’ Crashes With 80% Second-Weekend Drop

March 14, 2026 Jordan Ruimy

Not to beat a dead horse, but this is quite something, and if Warner Bros. wasn’t winning a bunch of Oscars tomorrow, this would be a major internal topic of conversation.

Maggie Gyllenhaal’s “The Bride,” coming off an opening weekend of $8M, is having a terrible second frame — there’s no other way to put it. The film grossed $650k on Friday and is on its way to a $1.8M second weekend. That’s a staggering 80% drop.

As for the budget, Warner Bros. is notorious for claiming false figures — they originally told the trades that “The Bride” cost $80M, then the figure went up to $90M, but Puck’s Matt Belloni has sources telling him that it’s actually $100M. I’ll trust Belloni on this one.

Taking the numbers into account, plus all the marketing costs, Warner Bros. is looking at $100M+ in losses on “The Bride.” This film, and Gyllenhaal, have been through hell and back — reshoots, studio interference, delays, different edits, bad test screenings — so the end result should surprise absolutely nobody.
