Delroy Lindo, now an Oscar-nominated actor, has been a reliable presence for decades, with memorable performances in such films as “Malcolm X,” “Da 5 Bloods,” “Crooklyn,” “Get Shorty,” and now “Sinners.”
Now that Lindo has settled into Ryan Coogler’s orbit, he’s confirming that he’s had talks to take on a role in the filmmaker’s upcoming “Black Panther 3.”
Lindo tells THR that he’s made clear his interest to Coogler, if the timing and logistics align with his schedule. “I expressed to Ryan that if the stars line up, I would love to be in Black Panther 3,” he said in the interview.
If you remember, Lindo was supposed to make his MCU debut, having been attached to the troubled “Blade” reboot, which, by all accounts, isn’t happening.
“Black Panther 3,” which is rumored for a 2028 release, has already had Coogler confirm he wrote a role for Denzel Washington. Whether Lindo’s discussion leads to anything tangible remains uncertain—it’s still just a conversation—but something tells me Coogler will put together one hell of a cast for this next installment.
A recent Variety report noted that ideas are currently “percolating” for the Coogler-directed threequel, generating “excitement internally” at Marvel. Coogler, who helmed the first two films, remains a central figure in Marvel’s long-term strategy, which is coming off his “Sinners,” a critical and box-office success in North America that was nominated for a record 16 Oscars.
“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” coming iff the first film’s immense success, was released in November 2022, and while it fell short of the original’s box-office numbers, it’s still the highest-grossing MCU movie of the last six years, having earned $859M worldwide. A third film happening was inevitable.
