Let this sink in for a second: a nearly three-hour Elizabeth Holmes documentary is the #1 movie in the country.
Lance Oppenheim and Nathan Fielder's "You Can See Everything" dethroned "Street Fighter" on both Monday and Tuesday, grossing $2.5M and $2.6M, respectively. That's right, word of mouth is doing exactly what A24 dreamed it would. In a year when "Obsession" and "Backrooms" were deemed once-in-a-lifetime, paradigm-shifting successes, Fielder's movie might have to become part of that narrative.
And lest we forget, it's doing this on just 855 screens. "Street Fighter" is playing in over 3,500 theaters. Per screen, this isn't even a contest.
This was already a story after opening weekend, when the film pulled in $15M with more than 2,000 sold-out shows nationwide. The weekday holds tell you the opening wasn't a frontloaded fluke. The 18–34 demo is showing up in droves, and they're telling their friends, who are telling their friends. For a documentary that reportedly cost under $7M? Unreal.
The real test comes this weekend, when A24 expands "You Can See Everything" to 2,500+ screens. Wouldn't it be something if it ended up at #1? I wouldn't rule it out. It just feels like something very special is happening around this film.
Standing in its way is DC's "Clayface," currently tracking somewhere around $25M. On paper, that's the favorite. Oh, but wait... I'd watch out for the reviews on that one. They won't be nearly as glowing as those breathless first social media reactions from last week. Just sayin'. More on that later today when the review embargo breaks.
Either way, the narrative has already been written. Studios spending $200M on IP should be taking notes. A24 is changing the game, and 2026 is turning into the kind of year Hollywood desperately needed: movies are more relevant now than at any time since the pandemic began.
