I have no idea what Benny Safdie is cooking up here, and maybe that’s a good thing?
Colman Domingo, Jeff Goldblum, Rachel McAdams and David Krumholtz (!) have all joined Safdie's "Lizard Music" in voice roles, per Deadline. No word on who they're voicing, but I'd bet on the lizards.
Yes, this is Safdie’s follow-up to "The Smashing Machine." And it couldn't be more different. It's a live-action/CGI hybrid from Amazon/MGM Studios and United Artists, with a cast that already included star Dwayne Johnson, Theo Leber, Alicia Silverstone, Tim Heidecker, Arya Parvathi, Regina Hall and… Andrew Dice Clay?
Safdie wrote the script, which is adapted from Daniel Pinkwater's 1976 novel of the same name.
The film tackles a boy who discovers a secret late-night broadcast of music-playing lizards, and while looking for answers he meets the eccentric Chicken Man (Johnson), and his 111-year-old chicken Claudia, as they head off to explore a hidden society.
"The Smashing Machine" just didn't connect with me, and despite Johnson's dramatic chops, it didn't pay off the way A24 hoped. So the two of them doubling down on something much weirder is either admirable or insane. Probably both.
“Lizard Music,” which is currently in production, is eyeing a 2027 release via Amazon/MGM Studios. Whatever the hell this is, I can’t say I’m not intrigued by it.
Universal has finally put a name on the fourth Mummy movie. It's called “The Mummy: Book of the Dead,” there’s a release date: October 15, 2027, basically a year from today.
