Netflix dropped the first poster for Greta Gerwig's “Narnia: The Magician's Nephew,” with the trailer set to arrive tomorrow. The film gets a 49-day exclusive theatrical run starting February 12 before landing on Netflix on April 2.
Let's talk about that poster. It shows two kids on the winged horse Fledge, framed inside a soft-focus lion's head, and set against the cosmic birth of a new world. It has a late-'70s, early-'80s fantasy look: “The NeverEnding Story” and “Labyrinth” spring to mind, as does the work of poster artist John Alvin.
The cast: David McKenna as Digory Kirke, Beatrice Campbell as Polly Plummer, Emma Mackey as Jadis, Carey Mulligan as Mabel Kirke, Daniel Craig as Uncle Andrew Ketterley, and Meryl Streep as the voice of Aslan. Ciarán Hinds is also in it, his role still unannounced, which has already spawned theories that he might voice a second, more “earthly” Aslan once Narnia is fully formed.
We’ll talk more about ‘Narnia’ tomorrow when the trailer finally releases online.
Quentin Tarantino has released ten films, but which one is his masterpiece? A critics’ poll I started back in 2024, and left sitting in my drafts ever since, is currently deadlocked between two films.
