Scott Cooper Set to Direct Remake of ‘Time Out’ — Christian Bale to Star

Christian Bale has so far collaborated on three films with director Scott Cooper—“Hostiles,” “Out of the Furnace,” and “The Pale Blue Eye”—and now a fourth collaboration is on the way.

This, I’m hearing, is that Bale and Cooper are gearing up to remake Laurent Cantet’s great 2001 film “Time Out” for Netflix. A closer look at my intel, via a simple Google search, suggests the film will begin shooting on March 31.

“Time Out” was the late Cantet’s best film—yes, even superior to his Palme d’Or–winning “The Class”—and it tackles an unemployed man whose life sinks further and further into trouble as he hides his situation from his family and friends.

I’m told Cooper has other projects lined up with Bale in the near future. So expect a fourth, fifth, maybe even sixth Bale/Cooper movie. They seem to love working with each other, and here’s hoping it eventually translates into a truly great movie one day.

Cooper also has two other projects in development, including the recently announced “Roswell” and “Comanche,” based on an Eric Roth script that Michael Mann was originally set to direct before personally bestowing directing duties on Cooper.

Cooper is coming off this past year’s “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere,” which has seen its Oscar hopes deflate in recent weeks. His other directing credits include “Crazy Heart,” “Black Mass,” “Hostiles,” “Out of the Furnace,” and “The Pale Blue Eye.”
