José Luis Alcaine to DP Brian De Palma’s ‘Sweet Vengeance’

Just a quick update on Brian De Palma’s “Sweet Vengeance,” which is set to shoot this summer in Portugal, with an expected 2027 release if everything goes smoothly.

The director of photography will be José Luis Alcaine, 87, one of the most celebrated cinematographers in European cinema. He is best known for his long-running collaboration with Pedro Almodóvar, having shot many of the director’s most iconic films, including “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown,” “All About My Mother,” “Talk to Her,” “Bad Education,” “The Skin I Live In,” and “Pain and Glory.”

I’ve always loved Alcaine’s luminous, old-school, color-rich style, which has been central to the visual identity of Almodóvar’s work for decades. He has previously collaborated with De Palma on “Passion” and “Domino,” making “Sweet Vengeance” their third project together.
