Mike Flanagan’s “The Exorcist” movie, rumored to be titled “Exorcist: Martyrs,” has now set a March 12, 2027, release via Universal Pictures. It was originally supposed to come out in March 2026, but Flanagan got caught up working on his “Carrie” series remake.
Regardless, this new Exorcist movie is set to star Scarlett Johansson and “Hamnet” breakout Jacobi Jupe as its two leads. Flanagan is promising a “radical new take” on the IP. Production starts on February 23. No word yet on who the DP is—although there’s a good chance it’ll be Michael Fimognari (“Oculus,” “Doctor Sleep”).
Flanagan was reportedly given “total creative freedom” on this next chapter of the franchise. Universal and Blumhouse are counting on him to steady the Exorcist brand and push it back into fighting shape after the David Gordon Green–directed disaster.
