‘Splitsville’ Director Sets Next Film at Netflix, Dark Comedy ‘The Last Fix’

January 15, 2026 Jordan Ruimy

After the acclaim of his recent comedy, “Splitsville,” not to mention his well-shot indie debut “The Climb,” Michael Angelo Covino has found his follow-up over at Netflix.

Covino is set to direct “The Last Fix,” with a script penned by Chuck MacLean. Deadline’s sources claim that “Netflix execs fell in love with [the] original spec and moved quickly to take it off the table preemptively.”

The film’s story remains largely a secret, but it is said to be a dark comedy centered on a Boston political fixer who learns he has just six months to live.

“Splitsville” played out of competition at Cannes, screening in the Cannes Premiere sidebar, and earned very positive coverage from critics. It was only his second feature, following “The Climb,” but it’s clear that Covino hasn’t just grown more confident—he’s grown more curious.
