Blanchett, one of the great actors of her generation, is a two-time Oscar winner (“The Aviator,” “Blue Jasmine”), recently starred in Todd Field’s “TÁR,” and has been a regular awards fixture across her career, with standout turns in “Carol” and “I’m Not There.”
Given her pedigree, I’ll always write about what Blanchett does next. That said, her next film is apparently going to revolve around riding dragons in IP land. Blanchett has inked a deal to reprise her role as Viking warrior Valka in Universal Pictures’ live-action “How to Train Your Dragon 2” (via THR).
Dean DeBlois returns to the franchise after co-creating it and shepherding last year’s initial live-action film as writer and director, and he will again serve as writer, and director. The first instalment debuted in June 2025 and went on to gross $636M globally. Production on the follow-up is slated to begin later this year.
