Marvel Drops Yet Another ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Teaser, and the MCU Still Feels Strangely Directionless

January 13, 2026 Jordan Ruimy

It’s the fourth week of “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” and that means Marvel Studios has now released the fourth teaser for “Avengers: Doomsday.” Is it just me, or have none of these sneak peeks done anything to get you excited for “Doomsday”? I’m so done with the MCU, which seems to be directionless at the moment.

After Captain America, Thor, and X-Men, this latest teaser focuses on Black Panther and the Fantastic Four. Letitia Wright’s Shuri does the voiceover of the clip, which unfolds in a desert. We see Winston Duke’s M’Baku greeting Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) from “The Fantastic Four.”

So, this is the fourth consecutive Marvel teaser to hit theaters on Friday, with an online release the following Tuesday. For now, it seems like it’ll be the last one — or at least until the Super Bowl, which is when a full trailer is supposed to premiere.

All indications point toward “Doomsday” being led by Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., and Chris Hemsworth. It feels like 2019 all over again. The rest of the announced ensemble is Marvel’s biggest collection of capes and contracts to date, which includes reviving the 2000s X-Men cast.

Yes, Marvel is pulling out all the stops to prevent their $400M+ gamble from becoming a commercial disaster. Downey, Evans, the Fox-era X-Men — it’s all coming back in a full-blown nostalgia play. It reeks of desperation.

To give some perspective: “Avengers: Endgame” cost $356M to make. “Doomsday” already has $105M publicly accounted for — $40M for the Russos, $50M for Robert Downey Jr., and $15M for Chris Hemsworth. With the avalanche of names reportedly attached, I’d be shocked if the final budget comes in under $400M.

“Avengers: Doomsday” is currently slated for release on December 18.
