Brad Anderson is an interesting filmmaker. He’s had his fair share of ups and downs, but in a climate where filmmakers with any kind of original ideas are more or less shunned, he’s continued making these types of movies for nearly 30 years.
Anderson’s more interesting efforts include “The Machinist,” “Transsiberian,” “Session 9,” “The Call” (underrated), “Beirut,” and “Happy Accidents.” He’s cooking up a new project now and has lined up some stellar actors in the process.
Dacre Montgomery, Diane Lane, Tim Robbins, and Sofia Boutella are set to star in Anderson’s “Moral Capacity.” It’s being described as a “psychological thriller,” with Montgomery (“Stranger Things”) taking on the lead role. Adding Robbins and Lane as his co-stars is promising.
The story centers on James Fisher (Montgomery), a man with a seemingly perfect life that unravels when his affair with business partner Andrea (Boutella) is exposed by her husband Cliff (Robbins). Cliff issues James a chilling ultimatum: commit murder or lose everything. As James spirals deeper into this destructive game of blackmail and manipulation, he turns to his therapist Dr. Torre (Lane), unaware that she harbors her own dangerous secrets.
Anderson directs from a script by novelist Peter Moore Smith (“Raveling,” “Los Angeles”). The film was introduced to buyers last week at TIFF by Highland Film Group. Production is set to begin in the U.K. in early 2026.
Anderson, who has been making indie films for over three decades, is still attached to direct George Romero’s “final” zombie film, titled “Twilight of the Dead.” The project was supposed to shoot this year but appears to have been delayed. Romero wrote the script for “Twilight of the Dead” before he passed away and regarded it as the conclusion to his “Living Dead” saga.
Regardless, Anderson’s next project is “Moral Capacity,” which could see a release as early as late 2026.
