Confirmed: A24 and Kristoffer Borgli’s ‘The Drama’ Eyes 2026 Release

August 7, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

Kristoffer Borgli is coming off “Dream Scenario,” starring an amusing Nicolas Cage, and he’s now teamed up again with A24, adding two very big actors into the mix.

Borgli’s “The Drama” stars Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, and it’s already generating great word of mouth, according to multiple sources that attended an ultra-private screening in June.

Given the buzz, and the nearly finished cut that was shown, I expected “The Drama” to possibly show up at this year’s fall fests, but a source close to the production is telling me to forget about it. The film is eyeing a 2026 release. I’m guessing either a Sundance or Cannes bow in store for this one.

Regardless, A24 has a busy fall ahead of them, some of their dated films include Joah Safdie’s “Marty Supreme,” Benny Safdie’s “The Smashing Machine,” and Mary Bronstein’s “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.”

“The Drama” centers on a couple, played by Pattinson and Zendaya, whose relationship takes an … unexpected turn right before their wedding day. Aided by Borgli’s “nasty” and “brilliant” screenplay is Pattinson who is said to deliver career-best work here. He pushes his acting skills to the edge as he portrays an ordinary British man caught up in an extraordinary situation.

For Borgli, a filmmaker filled with potential, and whose sophomore effort, 2022’s “Sick of Myself,” premiered at Cannes, “The Drama” marks his most high-profile film yet, with two of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood leading the cast.

Keep a close eye on this one next year.
