Denzel Washington: “I’m Tired of Movies. “I Don’t Watch Movies”

August 27, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

While out promoting Spike Lee’s new film “Highest 2 Lowest,” Denzel Washington — who, judging by some of his recent interviews, really doesn’t seem to care anymore — casually dropped a bombshell: he doesn’t watch movies these days.

During a GQ roundtable with Lee and co-star A$AP Rocky, the two-time Oscar winner, who could be seen scrolling his phone half the time, admitted he’s simply had enough of the medium he’s dominated for over four decades:

I don’t watch movies, man. I really don’t. I’m just being honest with you! I don’t watch movies! I don’t go to the movies. I don’t watch movies … I’m tired of movies. Yeah.

When Lee asked him how many films he’s made, Washington’s quick reply was, “Too many. I think 50!” “Highest 2 Lowest” actually marks his fifth collaboration with Lee.

Washington remains uninterested in anything that has to do with movies. Despite winning two Oscars, and racking up nine nominations, he recently stated he couldn’t care less about Oscars, which is more understandable than not caring about the medium itself.
