Sure, why not, I guess?
The theatrical landscape has changed, and studios have found new ways to make money. That’s why I’m not surprised Warner Bros has decided to make James Gunn’s “Superman” available on VOD in two weeks time.
That’s right, “Superman” will be available for digital home viewing on August 15. Gunn’s film was released in theaters on July 11, marking an exclusive 35-day theatrical window. Welcome to the new normal.
If this looks like a slap in the face to exhibitors, it kind of is, but there’s obviously a method to the madness. Warner Bros. knows just how profitable it is to send Supes to VOD this early. They’ll reap the benefits, and by that time, the film likely won’t have much in the way of legs left.
