Remember that wild rumor, via scooper Daniel Richtman, that Hunter Schafer was going to play Zelda? Turns out, it was fake news.
Yes, despite blowing up online, with one tweet alone racking up nearly a quarter of a million likes, Schafer isn’t playing the princess. Instead, a newcomer has been cast.
In a social media post on Wednesday, Nintendo revealed that Bo Bragason will be playing Zelda, with Benjamin Evan Ainsworth cast as Link, alongside photos of the actors in costume. Production on the film is set to begin very soon, if it hasn’t already.
English actress Bragason is best known for her work in the BBC One dramas “Three Girls” and “The Jetty,” as well as the Disney+ series “Renegade Nell.” Most recently, she starred in “The Radleys,” a vampire comedy directed by Euros Lyn. Zelda is her big break.
Sony and Nintendo are partnering once again for this one. Wes Ball, best known for “The Maze Runner” films and “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” is directing. Derek Connolly — who penned “Jurassic World” and “Detective Pikachu” — is writing the script.
Ball’s background in VFX-heavy projects makes him a logical choice for the fantasy-driven world. The film itself is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 7, 2027.
