I expected the worst for this one, but reviews make it out to not a complete disaster.
The review embargo for the “How to Train Train Your Dragon” live-action remake has lifted, and it currently sits at 83% on Rotten Tomatoes (40 reviews) and 65 on Metacritic (11 reviews).
Honestly, not bad for a live-action remake. I’m not the targeted audience for it, but positive ink will surely help it commercially. Internal tracking has the film aiming for a $90M-$100M opening weekend.
Dean DeBlois, who co-wrote and co-directed the original animated trilogy, returns to direct the live-action remake. The film, which stars Mason Thames, Gerard Butler, Nico Parker, and Nick Frost, is set to hit theaters this Friday.
Criterion's December lineup has some great additions to the library, but the title that jumped out at me is Werner Herzog's "Grizzly Man," which officially joins the Collection on December 8.
