Luc Besson has decided to shoot his own adaptation of Dracula, because we haven’t had enough adaptations already, and now there’s trailer proof of that.
“Dracula” reunites Besson with his “Dogman” star Caleb Landry Jones — Christoph Waltz is also part of the cast. Besson wrote and produced the film.
As of now, there is no U.S. distributor for Besson’s film, which is scheduled for release in France on July 30, 2025, with SND handling distribution there. However, details regarding its U.S. release remain unannounced.
It’s going to be a serious challenge to tell the Dracula story again, especially coming so soon after Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu” remake. Am I alone in thinking this latest version feels like a flashy retread of Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula? Honestly, the only real hook here is Caleb Landry Jones.
Jones is the kind of actor who thrives in oddball, chameleon-like roles, but based on the trailer, this feels more like an over-stylized, self-important remix of Coppola’s film rather than something fresh or essential.
Besson is known for his successful streak of ‘80s and ‘90s films such as “The Big Blue,” "La Femme Nikita," "Leon: The Professional," and "The Fifth Element.” He also wrote 2008’s highly influential “Taken,” which kickstarted a slew of one-man-killing-machine ripoffs such as “John Wick,” “The Equalizer” and “Nobody.”
