‘One of Them Days’ Sequel in the Works — Keke Palmer and SZA to Return

June 4, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

Keke Palmer and SZA shined in this year’s “One of Them Days,” a buddy comedy that captured the chaos and charm of two friends scrambling to make rent in a single, wild day.

I didn’t cover this film much when it came out, but it’s somewhat worth checking out. While it doesn’t break any new ground, it delivered a strong, laid-back vibe and managed to attract a decent audience along the way. Nothing more, nothing less.

Considering its low production cost, the film turned out to be a commercial success. Shot on a modest $14M budget, it grossed over $51M worldwide, more than tripling its production costs, and now a sequel has been ordered by TriStar, less than three months after its release.

Palmer and SZA are set to reprise their roles in the upcoming sequel, with the original creative team also on board, though story details remain tightly under wraps. TriStar seems to be fastracking this one.

Directed by Lawrence Lamont and penned by Syreeta Singleton, the film blended humor with heartfelt moments as Dreux (Palmer) and Alyssa (SZA) navigated a series of misadventures across Los Angeles. Their chemistry was undeniable, anchoring a narrative filled with quirky characters and unexpected twists.

Like “Friday” before it, “One of Them Days” blended street humor with a day-in-the-life structure that captured the vibe of a very specific time, place, and community. No surprise, it might become a cult favorite much like “Friday,” but then again, such a rapidly greenlit sequel could water down its reputation.
