‘Weapons’ is 128 Minutes

June 28, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

Early descriptions of Zach Cregger’s “Weapons” have drawn comparisons to “Magnolia,” suggesting an ensemble cast and an ambitious, multi-threaded narrative. It’s rumored to be a sprawling, multi-perspective horror film—something that might warrant an extended runtime.

As it turns out, according to the British Board of Film Classification, the final cut runs 128 minutes. That’s on the longer side for a horror movie, but still well short of Magnolia’s three-hour-plus sprawl. Regardless, it’s one of our most anticipated films of the summer— a non-IP that sounds like a true original.

The recent trailer sets up a chilling mystery: Julia Garner plays a schoolteacher whose entire class vanishes — not the whole school, just her students. At exactly 2:17 a.m., every student got out of bed, walked outside, and never came back. Josh Brolin shows up as a furious father demanding answers, asking the question on everyone’s mind — why her class?

After the unexpected success of “Barbarian,” Cregger suddenly became Hollywood’s horror golden boy. “Weapons” is his big swing — and if it connects, it could fully launch him into the top tier of genre auteurs. We’ll find out on August 8, 2025 if he’s the real deal.
