Christopher Nolan’s ambitious take on “The Odyssey” is very much still rolling. In fact, production has just hit Iceland, where thousands of extras are expected to join Matt Damon, Zendaya and Elliot Page.
Cameras started rolling back in February — that’s over five months ago —with the crew hopping across Morocco, Greece, Italy, Scotland and Los Angeles. Next up: Ireland in July, and then soon after, London.
I’m told a teaser for “The Odyssey” is ready, one narrated by Anna Hathaway, and could potentially release in July, tied to screenings of “Jurassic World: Rebirth.” Don’t expect much footage, it’ll be edited in the same minimalist vein as the last few Nolan teasers.
Stunt coordinator James Newman recently spoke about the scale of the film, saying:
“They’re never going to make a movie like this again. It’s the epic of all epics. The locations are insane — all over Europe — because Odysseus’ journey spans ten years. It’s wild.”
And that just about sums it up. Nolan isn’t just adapting Homer’s classic — he’s going full tilt with it. Gods, monsters, and mythological madness are stitched into what’s shaping up to be his longest and most audacious film yet. Expect a runtime pushing well past three hours.
With a production budget reportedly north of $250M, the film is being shot on cutting-edge IMAX cameras, with Hoyte van Hoytema back behind the lens.
Matt Damon leads as Odysseus, and the ensemble around him might be Nolan’s most stacked cast to date: Tom Holland, Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, and Mia Goth — just to name a few. “The Odyssey” is aiming for a theatrical release on July 17, 2026
