Cannes FINALLY Adds Bi Gan's ‘Resurrection' to Competition — 2 Hours 40 Minutes

May 8, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

For a moment, I thought that maybe Chinese censors had halted plans for Bi Gan’s “Resurrection” to compete for the Palme d’Or. That is not the case, as Cannes has officially announced Gan’s film as the 22nd competition title for this 78th edition of the festival.

“Resurrection,” which is officially 160 minutes, will screen on May 23. A first-look image has been released for Gan’s film, which can be seen above. This is the Chinese filmmaker’s third film, after the acclaimed “Kaili Blues” and “Long Day’s Journey Into Night.”

In fact, four titles were announced this morning, most of which I mentioned earlier in the week as potential late additions. There’s Eugene Jarecki’s “The Six Billion Dollar Man,” which is the Julian Assange doc that was abruptly pulled from the Sundance lineup in January. Jarecki’s documentary will be shown in the Special Screenings section.

Meanwhile, Lise Akoka et Romane Gueret’s “Ma Frere” was added to Cannes Premiere, and Martin Bourboulon’s “13 Jours, 13 Nuits” has found an Out of Competition spot. That’s a wrap. No more additions are expected. We now have the full lineup for the 78th Cannes Film Festival, which begins on Tuesday.
