Carey Mulligan Cast in Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia’ Prequel for Netflix

May 20, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

Carey Mulligan is set to join the cast of “The Chronicles of Narnia,” Greta Gerwig’s upcoming film adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ beloved fantasy series.

Mulligan, a three-time Academy Award nominee known for Maestro, Promising Young Woman, and An Education, recently appeared in Saltburn.

The Netflix-backed project will focus on ‘The Magician’s Nephew,’ the sixth book in the series but a prequel to “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” Gerwig has written the screenplay and will start production on the film this summer.

Casting is well underway, with high-profile names like Daniel Craig, Emma Mackey, and Meryl Streep already attached. The production is still searching for young actors to play the story’s central characters.

“The Magician’s Nephew” centers on two children who accidentally bring the White Witch into early 20th-century London through magical experimentation by one of their uncles. Craig is expected to portray that uncle, Mackey will reportedly take on the role of the White Witch, and Streep will lend her voice to Aslan, the lion and spiritual figurehead of Narnia.

Mulligan is slated to portray Digory’s gravely ill mother, a pivotal emotional anchor in the story.

A limited two-week theatrical IMAX run is planned for late 2026, a move championed by Gerwig. Netflix has promised her a 28-day run in theaters, and plans to then release stream the film near Christmas time.
