At this morning’s ‘Phoenician Scheme’ press conference, Wes Anderson remained mostly quiet about what his next film might be, only revealing that it will feature “darkness.”
Anderson will once again team up with Roman Coppola, his frequent co-writer, along with Richard Ayoade, who starred in “The Phoenician Scheme,” in a scene-stealing performance.
It was only a matter of time before Ayoade would become an Anderson regular. Ayoade’s directorial style shares similarities with Anderson’s, particularly in the use of symmetrical framing, deadpan humor, and quirky, stylized worlds.
Speaking of ‘Pheonician,’ the reviews are good, but not great, with some critics confiding they’ve had it with Anderson’s quirky visual and narrative style. Others are sticking with it, and will continue to defend the filmmaker to the very end.
