Disney’s Live-Action ‘Tangled’ Remake “Put on Pause”

April 3, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

When it comes to this story, it’s the signal and not the noise that matters. Our well-versed readers can read between the lines here, and come to this very conclusion.

Disney has “put on pause” what was supposed to be its next live-action remake, “Tangled,” as the studio continues to deal with the disastrous ramifications of its “Snow White” remake.

Michael Gracey (“Better Man”) was set to direct “Tangled,” and it was supposed to shoot as early as this summer. Suffice to say it, the film is not going ahead for the time being.

“Snow White” is dying at the box-office. No forrest friends can save her. It dropped nearly -70% in its second weekend of release. The film has only grossed $69M domestically on a budget that’s said to have exceeded $270M. Disney will have significant losses on this film.

Maybe it’s time for the mouse house to hit the pause button on just “Tangled,” but all of their other live-action remakes currently in development. It’s possible that audiences have finally soured on these soulless cash grabs.

Disney currently has “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” “Aristocats,” “The Sword in the Stone,” “Bambi” “Robin Hood,” and “Hercules” in development — have those been nixed too? Don't be surprised if you never hear about them again.

All this begs me to ask, did Rachel Zegler inadvertently help kill Disney live-action remakes?
