Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s ‘Judy’ Pauses Shooting; John Goodman Injured On Set

March 8, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

A brief update on Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s “Judy” which has been shooting since January. Production had to pause due to John Goodman injuring his hip during filming. Doesn’t sound too serious.

They’re hoping to resume production later this month, and it probably won’t affect the film’s October 2026 release date. Here’s wishing a quick recovery to Goodman, who turned 72 last summer.

Tom Cruise plays the lead role in “Judy” which has an ensemble cast that includes Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons and Sophie Wilde. It’s going to be one of the most anticipated films of next year.

Not much is known in terms of plot details, As far as we’ve learned, Iñàrritu’s film centers “on the most powerful man in the world, who embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”

Inarritu co-wrote the script in 2023 with “Birdman” writers Nicolas Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris, along with Sabina Berman. This will be Cruise’s first film since signing with Warner Bros. Discovery in January. His last project with the studio was  2014’s “Edge of Tomorrow.”

Save for his voice acting in a handful of animated movies, Goodman has only starred in one live action film (“Captive State”) since 2018. He’s one of the best character actors in cinema, and his return to the big screen via Inarritu’s latest will be a very welcomed return.

Some of Goodman’s finest work can be found in films such as “Raising Arizona,” “Barton Fink,” “Matinee,” “The Big Lebowski,” “Inside Llewyn Davis,” and “10 Cloverfield Lane.”
