I’m starting to see some conversations about the “defining shot” of the current decade. It all started with an account posting an “Obsession” still of Niki’s silhouette with “this might be the shot of the decade.” Empire Magazine then posted their own picks, and hundreds more have followed suit.
Some out-of-left-field picks (“Friendship”) and obvious contenders (“The Zone of Interest”) have been posted, and a handful have cited the image of an upside down Statue of Liberty in “The Brutalist.”
Now, “most defining” doesn’t mean “best cinematography,” it’s more about the impact that the shot has had, and in turn, the amount of times it’s been referred to in the movie community. With that said, chime in with your own picks in the comments section below.
