Juliette Binoche Named Jury President of the 78th Cannes Film Festival

February 4, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

French actress Juliette Binoche has been named the president of the jury for the 2025 Cannes film festival. She succeeds last year’s president, Greta Gerwig, whose jury gave the Palme d’Or to “Anora.”

Binoche made her Cannes debut 40 years ago, with the premiere of André Téchiné’s “Rendez-vous”. She’s since been back to Cannes numerous times, including for Krzysztof Kieślowski’s “Blue,” Michael Haneke’s “Cache,” and Abbas Kiarostami’s “Certified Copy.”

“In 1985, I walked up the steps for the first time with the enthusiasm and uncertainty of a young actress; I never imagined I’d return 40 years later in the honorary role of President of the Jury,” Binoche said in a statement. “I appreciate the privilege, the responsibility and the absolute need for humility.”

This will be the first time in its history that Cannes has had back-to-back female presidents heading the jury. The 78th Cannes International Film Festival, which runs May 13 – 24, 2025, is set to be another edition filled with A-list auteurs. The full lineup will be revealed in mid-April.
