Teaser for ‘Shrek 5' — Zendaya to Star as Shrek's Daughter

February 27, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

If you thought the ‘Shrek’ franchise was DOA, think again. A fifth film is happening over at DreamWorks. Not just that, a teaser was just released. The film is set to hit theaters on December 23, 2025.

Zendaya has joined the animated series as the daughter of Shrek (Mike Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz). She also joins Eddie Murphy, the voice of Donkey. It doesn’t look as though Antonio Banderas’ Puss in Boots will be in “Shrek 5” as he was not part of today’s official announcement.

How Zendaya managed to fit this one into her ridiculously busy schedule remains a mystery. She released two films last year (“Dune: Part II,” “Challengers”) and is set to be part of four productions this year (“Euphoria,” “The Odyssey,” “Spider-Man 4,” and “Dune: Messiah”).

The ‘Shrek’ franchise ran its course after the second film. They somehow milked it into four movies, the last one being 2010’s “Shrek Forever After.” If you remember, the first two movies actually competed in official competition at Cannes. That was then, this is now. Hopefully, “Shrek 5” turns out to be a necessary addition to the franchise.
