‘The Apprentice’ Director Accused of Groping “A-List Actor”

February 21, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

Deadline is reporting that Ali Abbasi, director of “The Apprentice,” allegedly and “aggressively,” groped an “A-list actor” at a Golden Globes afterparty.

Abassi’s agency (CAA) demanded that he apologize to the actor, and now the filmmaker’s U.S. reps at CAA & Entertainment 360 have dropped him as a client.

We’re told there is an ugly backstory here […] Events unfolded at CAA’s Golden Globes after-party, where, sources said, an inebriated Abbasi aggressively groped an A-list, CAA-repped actor.

The Iranian-born filmmaker, who currently resides in Copenhagen, directed “The Apprentice,” a Donald Trump biopic that earned Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong Oscar nominations.

Abassi has also become a mainstay at the Cannes Film Festival; His “Border” won Un Certain Regard in 2018 and “Holy Spider” competed for the Palme d’Or in 2022. “The Apprentice” also competed for the Palme d’Or in 2024.
