Will Smith Seems to Believe Audiences Want ‘Hancock 2'

February 20, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

During a stream on Twitch, Will Smith teased that a “Hancock” sequel was not only in the works, but might be coming very soon. He went as far as to state that he plans to approach Zendaya for a key role. Good luck with that, slick Willie.

There’s a really cool Hancock 2 idea. We haven’t even talked about it. I’m going to give you one little piece. Zendaya [is] being approached for a role in Hancock 2.

I doubt that Zendaya, who seems really keen in working with A-list directors, would want to take part in “Hancock 2.” I just can’t see her working with Guadagnino, Villeneuve, and Nolan only to then settle with “Hancock 2.”

“Hancock,” released in 2008, was a superhero movie revolving around the titular character, played by Smith, a reckless alcoholic, trying to remember his past, who causes more destruction than good while trying to save people. Based on what I can remember, I really liked the subversive first half of the film, but then it completely deteriorated into nonsense in the second hour.

Sure, “Hancock” was a box-office hit, earning $629M worldwide against a $140M budget, but who still talks about this movie? The original was directed by Peter Berg, written by Vince Gilligan (“Breaking Bad”). Smith’s co-stars included Charlize Theron, Jason Bateman, and Eddie Marsan.

A sequel has been in the works for well over 15 years. In 2020, Theron confirmed talks to make “Hancock 2” and that she would be interested in returning for a second serving.

“You know, for a while we [talked about a sequel],” Theron told ComicBook. “I think closer to when the movie came out, but not in recent years, no. We’ll be super heroes with our walkers, you know. And I’ll still go! I’ll still make that movie, I would do it in a heartbeat.”

The “Hancock” sequel has been dormant for many years, but Smith, currently attempting a career comeback, wants to revive it. No surprise, Smith is working on a bunch of sequels at the moment, including “I Am legend 2,” “Hitch 2” “Bad Boys 5.” He’s milking his career away — don’t be surprised if we hear about “I, Robot 2” in the near future.
