‘The Batman 2’ Shoot Further Delayed to “End of 2025”

February 13, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

What exactly is going on with Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” sequel? There have been so many delays on this one that some were starting to wonder if there might be friction going on between Reeves and DCU boss James Gunn.

Reeves has been working on the script for ‘The Batman’ sequel since late 2022. By the time we get to see this one, Robert Pattinson might be nearing retirement age.

Last we heard, and after multiple other production delays, ‘The Batman: Part 2’ had set up a summer 2025 shoot in the UK. Scratch off those plans. Pattinson is now telling Deadline that production will now begin at the end of the year.

This delay might have to do with Pattinson having to promote three films this year (“Mickey 17,” “Die My Love” and “The Drama”), and that’s not even counting his upcoming work on Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” — set to shoot later this month.

Then again, we’re not even sure if the script is ready on this one as Reeves had mentioned, back in late December, that he was still writing it. At least Andy Serkis, who portrays Alfred, recently confirmed that Reeves told him what the actual story was about.

The sequel was announced at CinemaCon in April 2022, with Pattinson and Reeves returning, along with Mattson Tomlin as co-writer. Pattinson, Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, and Colin Farrell are all set to reprise their respective roles.

“The Batman” was actually the last time we saw Pattinson on screen, he hasn’t starred in anything else since then. Next month he’ll be seen in Bong Joon-ho’s “Mickey 17,” which has had its own fair share of delays.

‘The Batman 2’ was originally supposed to open on October 2, 2026, but Warner Bros recently shifted a year to October 1, 2027.
