Laura Dern Joins Bradley Cooper's ‘Is This Thing On?'

February 11, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

After “A Star is Born” and “Maestro,” Bradley Cooper recently set up his third feature as a director. Cooper will be teaming up with Will Arnett and Andrew Day on the Searchlight-produced “Is This Thing On?”

Cooper was a guest on ESPN’s “The Pat McAfee Show,” and he’s revealed that Laura Dern has joined the cast of his new film. Production on “Is This Thing On?” begins in “two weeks,” and Cooper will only have a small role in the feature which he co-wrote with Arnett.

Emily Blunt was originally supposed to star in the film, but Cooper does not mention her in the interview. Was she replaced by Dern? Plot details have been kept under wraps for the longest time, but a production grid started circulating in December, and with that came our first story details:

After many years together, Alex and Tess have reached an amicable end to their marriage, thus beginning the awkward stage of figuring out how to live separately while raising two boys and maintaining their friendships. Alex discovers a new hobby which allows him to reflect on his identity and the dynamics of his relationship with Tess.

What we might have here is Cooper trying to do something a little lighter as a director, especially after the heavy nature of “Maestro.” It could work out. Arnett is good pals with Cooper, and they both co-wrote the script alongside Mark Chappell. We’ll be keeping an eye out on this one.
