First Look: Anne Hathaway as Penelope in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’

November 14, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

More first look images from Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” via Empire Magazine. I wouldn’t be surprised if some additional pics show up soon.

We have Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Odysseus’ wife, with Mia Goth’s Melantho, one of the maids in the palace, lurking in the background. The second image has Tom Holland in full armor gear as Telemachus, Odysseus’ son.

This is Hathaway’s third Nolan, she also starred in “The Dark Knight Rises,” and “Interstellar.” Next year, she will be seen in a whopping five movies: “The Odyssey,” “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” “Mother Mary,” “Verity,” and “Flowervale Street.”

While the film centers on Matt Damon’s portrayal of Odysseus, and his arduous journey home following the Trojan War, Nolan’s film has one of the most impressive casts in recent memory, including the likes of Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Benny Safdie, Samantha Morton and Jon Bernthal.

As for that ‘Odyssey’ trailer rumored to be attached to showings of “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” word is that it might be a six-minute prologue. Nothing’s confirmed yet, but it wouldn’t be the first time Nolan has done this — 5–6 minute prologues were also screened in past Decembers for “The Dark Knight,” “The Dark Knight Rises,” “Dunkirk,” and “Tenet.”

“The Odyssey” is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2026. The budget is a reported $250M. The film used brand-new, state-of-the-art IMAX cameras, with cinematography by Nolan’s go-to DP, Hoyte Van Hoytema. Tickets for the 70mm IMAX showings actually went on sale this summer and sold out most of their showings (25,000+ tickets over 22 locations).
