First Look: Eli Roth’s ‘Ice Cream Man’

Oh, boy. Here comes Eli Roth — a director best known for his contributions to the torture-porn genre, and a filmmaker whose name should come with a trigger warning anytime it’s mentioned on Twitter.

Roth has shot a new film; it’s called “Ice Cream Man,” and it’s being described as his “most terrifying and insane film to date.” What else do you expect the press release to say? A first-look image has also been unveiled. The film is scheduled for wide theatrical release in 2026.

“Ice Cream Man” tells the story of a seemingly perfect summer town spiraling into madness after an ice cream man’s confections take a sinister turn. Production wrapped in September, with a theatrical release planned for 2026.

The film stars Ari Millen (“Orphan Black”) as the titular character, along with Roth, Benjamin Byron Davis, Karen Cliche, Dylan Hawco, Sarah Abbott, Shiloh O’Reilly, Kiori Mirza Waldman, Charlie Zeltzer, and Charlie Storey.

Snoop Dogg, who is partnering with Roth on the forthcoming horror feature “Don’t Go in That House, Bitch!,” will also handle portions of the film’s soundtrack.

Roth is coming off the nadir of his career, “Borderlands,” which I’m surprised he hasn’t disowned yet — considering he was replaced by Tim Miller for extensive reshoots that reportedly covered nearly half the movie.

Along with the Snoop project, Roth does also have a “Thanksgiving” sequel coming up — the original, for some reason, was the best-reviewed film of his career on Rotten Tomatoes. I much preferred 2002’s “Cabin Fever,” still his best work. Hell, even “Hostel” was better — but that’s just my humble opinion.
