Joe Cornish’s ‘Attack the Block’ Sequel Planning 2026 Shoot

November 12, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

Remember “Attack the Block”? If you saw it back in 2011, you probably do. A sequel has been in the works for over a decade, but it looks like it’s finally going to happen.

Now comes the news, via an AMA with Edgar Wright, where the filmmaker revealed that Cornish has completed the script and is planning to shoot the sequel to “Attack the Block” “next year.” This aligns with what the original’s star, John Boyega, mentioned earlier in the summer, saying they were trying to make the script “look real good for that 2026 crowd.”

That’s a major update for fans who’ve been waiting. Cornish, it’s worth remembering, has only directed one film since “Attack the Block” — the 2019 fantasy adventure “The Kid Who Would Be King” — which makes this sequel all the more significant.

Cornish hasn’t directed more movies mainly because he’s highly selective and many of his projects have stalled in development; he’s admitted to having projects take longer to fund and produce due to the current climate in the industry — might as well make a sequel. Cornish has also stayed busy writing and collaborating on screenplays like “Ant-Man” and recently worked on the Netflix series “Lockwood & Co.”

“Attack the Block” was a visually accomplished picture, set in a gritty urban South London milieu, tackling everything from youthful delinquency and class tensions to an alien invasion — all wrapped in bold style and sharp humour. Directed by Cornish, the film remains a cultish gem.

Reviews were stellar for the film, which only grossed $6 million worldwide against its $13 million budget, but its subsequent cult following was strong enough to warrant the upcoming sequel.

With the script completed and the plan to shoot next year, we may finally be heading back to that tower block for another wave of alien mayhem and social commentary.
