‘Scream 7' Trailer Brings Back Neve Campbell and Kevin Williamson

October 30, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

‘Scream 7’ has released a trailer. How many times can Ghostface get shot and still live? For the life of me, I don’t understand how this franchise is—no pun intended—still alive. I thought we were done with the slasher genre.

Neve Campbell is set to make her big return to the franchise. Courteney Cox, Isabel May, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and Anna Camp will be there as well.

SYNOPSIS: “When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott (Campbell) has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter (May) becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, Sidney must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.”

So, after the whole Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega fiasco, it seems as though “Scream” is going back to its roots. Kevin Williamson is replacing Christopher Landon as director.

Williamson, who wrote the first two “Scream” movies, has only directed one film in his career (“Teaching Mrs. Tingle”) and “Scream 7” will be his sophomore effort. His other screenwriting credits include “I Know What You Did Last Summer” (1997), “The Faculty,” and “Cursed.”

Just to recap how Kevin Williamson and Neve Campbell ended up returning: after Melissa Barrera was fired in November 2023 over her social media comments about the Gaza war, a firestorm erupted. The backlash soon led to her co-star, Jenna Ortega, exiting the franchise as well — though the official line claimed it was due to a “scheduling conflict.” Amid the chaos, Landon also bowed out as director, calling it “a dream job that turned into a nightmare.”

With that said, the last “Scream” movie that I semi-liked was the fourth one, released in 2011. They’re stretching this nearly four-decade-old franchise to its absolute commercial limits. Sure, there’s still a fanbase, but at some point, that same audience will be jumping ship and saying enough is enough. Then again, the last one, released in 2023, racked up an impressive domestic haul of $108 million.

“Scream 7” hits theaters on February 27, 2026.
