Leonardo DiCaprio Still Hesitating to Join David Fincher’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ Sequel

October 12, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

So, apparently, Leonardo DiCaprio is starting to piss Netflix off by “dragging his feet” and showing reluctance to appear in David Fincher’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” sequel — which has been filming since July.

DiCaprio has been very picky lately, as he still hasn’t agreed to cameo as Rick Dalton in Fincher’s Brad Pitt- starring ‘Cliff Booth’ — much to Netflix’s frustration, TheInSneider is told — and he also backed out of a planned summer shoot for Damien Chazelle’s film about Evel Knievel. That’s why some are skeptical he’ll remain attached to Michael Mann’s “Heat 2.”

Netflix is reportedly offering DiCaprio $3M for the Dalton cameo — just for one day of shooting — but apparently, back in April, that amount was considered too low for the actor. Normally, DiCaprio commands $20M per film, but given that this is merely a cameo, $3M is a very generous offer for the limited work involved. Not to him, apparently.

Technically, the rest of DiCaprio’s 2025 schedule is wide open for that Rick Dalton cameo — unless you count yacht time in Ibiza as “work.” He’s taking the rest of the year off and isn’t expected back on a film set until January, when Martin Scorsese’s “What Happens at Night” is slated to begin production.

I know DiCaprio has maintained a strict “no sequels” policy for decades, but since he’s currently attached to “Heat 2,” it’s hard to imagine him leaving Fincher and Pitt hanging on this one. My bet is he’ll eventually sign on for the damn cameo. Watch out for a potential Margot Robbie appearance as well.

‘Cliff Booth’ is set up over at Netflix, where Fincher has a first-look deal. The budget is said to be around $200M. The cast includes Pitt, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Corey Fogelmanis and Karren Karagulian.

Fincher’s “sequel” is expected to continue filming through the fall, with production aiming to wrap by December. A 2026 release is currently anticipated.
