Casting Underway for Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia’

February 2, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

Looks like casting is officially underway on Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia.’

NarniaWeb has obtained a copy of the casting call for the leads in Greta Gerwig’s adaptation, confirming two children, a boy and a girl, will portray characters that are 10 or 11 years old.

Filming and rehearsals are scheduled to take place in the UK from June through Christmas 2025. A fall production start is being eyed on Gerwig’s film.

There’s been speculation that “The Magician’s Nephew” would be the first story Gerwig adapts in her two-film deal with Netflix. The main characters in that book are Digory, 12, and Polly, 11, which would align with the age range mentioned in the casting call.

There have been persistent rumors, which I confirmed last year, that Gerwig had set aside a key ‘Narnia’ role for her “Lady Bird” star Saoirse Ronan. Other than that, there’d been no other news on the casting front until today.

It’s again worth noting that no official confirmation has been made regarding which books will be adapted first. ‘Magician’s Nephew’ would certainly be a fresh new take on the franchise. If Gerwig were to begin her set of films with a prequel story, this would likely broaden the audience and introduce essential plot elements for the next instalment.

Gerwig’s “Narnia,” which has an IMAX November 2026 release, is set to start production later this year. A recent report (via Observer) claimed that the budget on the film would probably “exceed” $200M.
