New ‘Superman' Teaser Being Mocked For One Specific Shot

January 27, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

A new “Superman” teaser was released yesterday, and it featured a few new shots, including a close-up that’s already blowing up the internet, but for all the wrong reasons.

At the end of the teaser, we see Superman (David Corenswet) flying towards the screen over a snowy landscape. The camera zooms uncomfortably close to his face and his body behind it looks disproportionately small. Yes, it looks a tad awkward, but nothing to really deter my expectation for the film.

Regardless, the film's CGI got blasted on Twitter/X. The close up shot of Corenswet's face certainly has fans reacting in a negative way, but people, it’s just one shot. Gunn is now defending himself, and goes as far as to state that there was zero CGI used on Corenswet's face:

There is absolutely zero CG in his face. People’s faces can look different when you put a wide angle lens up close. The background plate in Svalbard is 100% real as is David.

With memes flooding social media, slowly outlining the polarizing reception of this new Superman, one has to wonder just how well Gunn’s take on the “Man of Steel” will be met by a moviegoing audience that’s been very cool on Superman these last 40 years.

As it stands, the last great Superman movie was released almost 45 years ago, that would be Richard Donner’s “Superman II,” released in 1980. Hopefully, Gunn has delivered something special here, and I’m sure he realizes that it can’t be the same old, same old — something fresh needs to be made out of the character.

The film, which wrapped production in July, is set to star Corenswet as the Man of Steel, Rachel Bronahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor; the rest of the cast includes Skyler Gisondo, Anthony Carrigan and Isabela Merced.

“Superman” will be released worldwide July 11, 2025
