John M. Chu to Direct Dr. Seuss’ ‘Oh, the Places You’ll Go!’

January 27, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

Jon M. Chu is collecting musicals like infinity stones.

Chu, who broke big with “Crazy Rich Asians,” has already directed “In The Heights,” and “Wicked,” two lavishly produced movie musicals. He’s not done either. Chu also has in development a Britney Spears biopic and an adaptation of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”

We can now add another musical to the mix. It’s just been announced that, after the release of this year’s “Wicked: For Good,” Chu’s potential next film will be an animated Dr. Seuss musical.

Warner Bros. has announced that “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” is set for theatrical release in IMAX on March 17, 2028. The film, from directors Chu and Jill Culton, is set to center on a young adventurer navigating the ups and downs of life.

The feature is based on Dr. Seuss’ last published book of the same name, which was released in 1990. The cherished children’s author died a year later. Rob Lieber wrote the screenplay, while Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are working on the original songs.

As mentioned, Chu’s next film is the already-shot “Wicked: For Good.” Before he got branded by Hollywood as the go-to filmmaker for musicals, Chu was once known as the guy who directed “Now You See Me 2,” “Jem and the Holograms” and “G.I. Joe: Retaliation.”
