Roger Avary Says “Antifa Sleeper Cells" Started L.A. Fires; Jim Jarmusch Blames “Climate Deniers"

January 10, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

As the California fires rage on, L.A. has turned into a post-apocalyptic version of hell, and Hollywood has subsequently halted because of it.

There’s an innumerable amount of stars who have lost their homes, including Mel Gibson, Jamie Lee Curtis, James Woods, Billy Crystal, John C. Reilly, Miles Teller, Anthony Hopkins, John Goodman, and Mark Hamill. Premieres and awards ceremonies have been postponed or canceled, and there’s no way in knowing when it will all end.

With that said, and with us not really knowing much about the source of these fires, filmmaker Roger Avary seems to be of the firm belief that the tragic circumstances might have been started by Antifa (via X):

This is more than just incompetence. Antifa sleeper cells have been activated, folks. Wake up. We are at War.

Avary goes on to say that his pal, and “American Psycho” author, Bret Easton Ellis caught someone “pouring gasoline into the storm drain” next to his place and lighting it on fire.

It should be noted that we don’t really know how these fires started. However, earlier in the morning, a blowtorch carrying man was arrested by LAPD officers for potentially starting the Kenneth fires.

Meanwhile, on the totally opposite side of the political spectrum, filmmaker Jim Jarmusch (“Patterson”) is blaming climate change deniers for the L.A. fires.

“We are all worried about our friends in LA,” said Jarmusch at the NYFCC gala. “Climate crisis is brought to you by climate deniers … They are telling us that woke is a negative thing, and I would just like to say it’s time we wake the f-ck up!”

I’m neither on Avary or Jarmusch’s side, but rather quite fond of the firm stance taken by “Don’t Look Up” screenwriter David Sirota, who believes the fires further prove that his film is a timeless work of art.
