CONFIRMED: John Woo to Direct New Sparks Musical, ‘X Crucior'

September 9, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

UPDATE: John Woo has confirmed to Empire that his next film is indeed the Sparks musical. What a strange team up. The film is titled “X Crucior.”

“I’m going to be working with the Sparks Brothers, who wrote the script and songs — we are just starting work on some changes to the script” Woo tells Empire. “It will be my first movie where I don’t need to hire a stuntman,” he adds.

EARLIER: The musical group Sparks, who teamed with Leos Carax on “Annette,” have been teasing, for a few years now, a new musical they’ve been working on that they want to turn into a feature film. They might have found a filmmaker willing to bring their songs and story to the screen.

Sparks has gone on X, and posted a picture alongside director John Woo, and simply captioned: “Legendary filmmaker John Woo + Spark = ?????”

Now, I’m not jumping to any conclusions here, but Sparks hinting at a collaboration with Woo is pretty wild. This would be an eccentric team-up. It could maybe rejuvenate Woo; He hasn’t directed a great film in over 25 years.

Last year, Woo (“Face Off,” “Hard Boiled”) released “Silent Night” an action-driven story, shot with no dialogue and only told visually with only music accompanying the drama. It wasn’t necessarily the action comeback Woo fans were expecting. Last month, his remake of 1989’s “The Killer” went straight to Peacock.
