Box-Office: ‘Deadpool & Wolverine' Dominates With $100M Second Weekend

August 4, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

Nothing could stop “Deadpool and Wolverine” from keeping the #1 spot at the weekend box-office. There was no competition. The Ryan Reynolds-Hugh Jackman MCU movie is in a league of its own.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” grossed close to $100M during its second weekend of release, representing a 54% drop. The third ‘Deadpool’ movie will pass the $400M domestic mark on Monday and $830M worldwide. Again, this is less than two weeks since its release. Will it best “Inside Out 2” ($627M) for #1 of 2024? It’ll need some legs.

It’s practically a given that, when all is said and done, “Deadpool & Wolverine” will become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all-time, and that’s of course without the adjustment of inflation. It’s already the highest R-rated earner ever domestically having surpassed previous champ “The Passion of the Christ” ($370M) over the weekend.

Want to know how “Deadpool & Wolverine” has severely brushed aside any and all other competition? The movie provided 55% of box-office totals this weekend. Only three other films grossed over $10 million, led by “Twisters” ($22M), “Trap” ($15M) and “Despicable Me 4” ($11M). Some are predicting that “It Ends With Us,” starring Blake Lively and being released next Friday, might dethrone it. I have my doubts.
