Word is that Disney wants Austin Butler to star as the lead in their upcoming ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ reboot, via The DisInsider. Would Butler be taking on the role of Jack Sparrow? Hope not.
Did we need this reboot? of course not. We’re not even sure if Johnny Depp would be back as Sparrow. My bet is he isn’t. He was the best, and, at times, only, reason to watch the previous films.
Craig Mazin, show creator of “Chernobyl” and “The Last Of Us”, did confirm that he was co-writing the screenplay with original ‘Pirates’ scribe, Ted Elliot. There is still no director attached to this project.
The ‘Pirates’ franchise has been dead to many fans, especially after the last release, 2017's "Dead Men Tell No Tales.” However, money talks, and reboots being greenlit occur on a near-weekly basis in Hollywood.
