It’s Easter Weekend, which means plenty of folks will be flocking to movie theaters, likely to watch “Godzilla X Kong,” “Dune: Part 2,” “Kung-Fu Panda 4” and “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” but the latter is mightily struggling.
After a $43 million opening weekend, the ‘Ghostbusters’ sequel is eyeing a $14-15 million weekend. That’s a -68% crash. Yikes. What happened? Most likely toxic word of mouth, that’s what. It’s practically guaranteed to earn less than 1989’s “Ghostbusters II,” unadjusted to inflation ($112 million). It might not even crack the $100 million mark.
The ‘Frozen Empire’ budget is said to be around $100 million. These latest numbers might very well mean that the franchise is done, and we won’t we be seeing another one of these ‘Ghostbusters’ movies in the foreseeable future. That’s a good thing.
As expected, Snyder's latest is being torn apart by TIFF attendees. No mercy given. The film, which had its world premiere this evening, is being called by some one of the worst movies to ever premiere at the festival.
