‘28 Years Later' Trailer Next Week, Poster Released — Cillian Murphy Not Billed

December 6, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

UPDATE: It looks like the trailer for “28 Years Later” is indeed ready. I’m being told to expect it sometime next week.

EARLIER: Last we heard, Danny Boyle’s “28 Years Later,” which cost $75M to produce, was shot on an iPhone 15. This would make it the priciest film ever to be shot on a smartphone. Boyle was aided by his go-to cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle (“Slumdog Millionaire,” “28 Days Later,” “Trainspotting,” “127 Hours”).

We now have a poster for the film (below) which means there’s a small chance we might get a trailer for it before the year is done. It should be noted that Cillian Murphy’s name does not appear on the poster, and this parallels what we had previously heard.

Murphy, who starred in the original, is said to have a very small role in the film. Nia DaCosta’s follow-up, titled “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple,” will again have Murphy in a small role, but the third one, still not shot, is when the actor becomes the lead.

Plot details have been kept a secret, up until now. Ralph Fiennes, who plays a “good doctor” in ‘28 Years,’ recently told IndieWire’s Anne Thompson that the film actually centers on a young boy:

Britain is 28 years into this terrible plague of infected people who are violent, rabid humans with a few pockets of uninfected communities. And it centers on a young boy who wants to find a doctor to help his dying mother. He leads his mother through this beautiful northern English terrain. But of course, around them hiding in forests and hills and woods are the infected. But he finds a doctor who is a man we might think is going to be weird and odd, but actually is a force for good.

Principal photography for “28 Years Later” wrapped in August, and the cast and crew had to sign NDAs not to reveal much about the film, let alone that it was shot on an iPhone.

“28 Years Later” is set to star Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes and Charlie Hunman. It’s also set up to be theatrically released on June 20, 2025.
